History of 100 Women Who Care
100 Women Who Care began in 2006 in Jackson, Michigan, by Karen Dunigan as a simple way to quickly raise money for the Center for Family Health. The charity was in desperate need of baby cribs, mattresses and blankets for newborns. The total cost for the needed items was a staggering $10,000. Karen realized that she knew 100 women who would each donate $100 to cover the cost, so she rallied her network of community women and called a meeting. In just one-hour, her group of 100 women heard the story and wrote checks directly to the charity, raising $12,800, more than was requested. When Karen realized how easy it was to raise money for this cause, she founded the first of 100+ Women Who Care and scheduled quarterly meetings. The rules were simple: any member could present a need in the community, and the money raised had to remain in the local area. The original chapter has since grown to more than 200 members and there are now over 900 active giving circles, all making a tremendous impact in local communities throughout the world.
About Our Golden Triangle chapter
In 2023, our chapter’s founder learned about 100 Women Who Care from a friend in Tallahassee, and started looking for a local group. After visiting another Central Florida chapter, she and a small group of friends decided to bring the 100 Women Who Care concept to northeast Lake County, and the Golden Triangle chapter was formed. In February of 2024, the first meeting of 100 Women Who Care Golden Triangle met at the W.T. Bland Public Library in Mount Dora. Today, we are well on our way to 100 members, have given thousands of dollars to local charities through our donations and matching grants, and have learned about needs of many local non-profits.

100 Women Who Care Golden Triangle values input and guidance from all of our members. Our success depends on the involvement of all members through their active support and participation. The powerful impact we have on the northeast Lake County community grows through our members, who invite friends to meetings, spread the word about our powerful group, and nominate local charities who serve those in need. Together, we can do so much more!
If you are able to contribute $100 quarterly to give back to our local community, would you consider becoming a member?
